Migration Tools

AutoCAD Migration Assistance

Several of the tools contained in the original AutoCAD® 2000/2000i Migration Assistance have been updated and are now freely available to all Autodesk® customers. Because these are public tools, product support is limited to the Autodesk discussion groups.

The following migration tools are included in this distribution:

Layer State Converter - Converts between layer states created by the LMAN Express Tool and the new saved layer states introduced in AutoCAD 2000i. To use the Layer States Converter, you type one of the following commands on the AutoCAD command line:

CONVERTLS - Converts AutoCAD layer states to LMAN layer states.
CONVERTLMAN - Converts LMAN layer states to AutoCAD layer states.
Batch Drawing Converter - Converts a selected set of DWG files between AutoCAD R13, R14, and AutoCAD 200x formats. This utility requires that AutoCAD 2002 (or an AutoCAD 2002-based product) be present on the system.
AutoLISP Compatibility Analyzer - Identifies many of the changes required to convert AutoLISP® programs to work with Visual LISP® in AutoCAD 2002.
Menu and Toolbar Porter - Brings your custom menus and toolbars from AutoCAD R12, R13, and R14 into AutoCAD 2002.
Command Alias Porter - Quickly copies your command shortcuts from AutoCAD R12, R13, and R14 into AutoCAD 2002.
ScriptPro - ScriptPro is a batch processing utility that allows you to apply a set of commands to multiple drawings.

Installation

This product can be installed and used on any AutoCAD 2000-, AutoCAD 2000i-, or AutoCAD 2002-based product, including Autodesk Architectural Desktop, Autodesk Map®, Autodesk Land Desktop, Mechanical Desktop®, and AutoCAD Mechanical. This product is not intended to operate with any version of AutoCAD LT.

Requirements:

Pentium-based processor
Windows 98, NT 4.0, or 2000
64 MB RAM
5 MB disk space
800 x 600 display (minimum)
Pointing device (mouse or digitizer)

To install AutoCAD Migration Assistance tools

1. After downloading Migration Assistance, run or double-click migrsetup.exe from within Windows Explorer to begin installation.
2. Read and accept the Software License Agreement.
3. Specify a location for the installation.
It is strongly recommended that you install the Migration Assistance to the default location (<acadpath>\migration).
4. Reboot your system.
It is recommended that you always reboot your system after installing a software package.

Known Limitations

Batch Drawing Converter

Because drawing files are converted "in place," it is recommended that you either use the default backup file option or create a copy of your files before you run the Batch Drawing Converter. It's a good idea to make backup copies of your files before doing any kind of automated batch processing.

When the Batch Drawing Converter converts files, it does not automatically load and convert external references (xrefs) attached to those files. The xref files must be explicitly named in the drawing list. You can save the drawing list as a file with a .bcl extension and add file names to it later.

The Batch Drawing Converter fails when running more than one session simultaneously.

The Batch Drawing Converter removes the previews from drawings that it processes. To restore a preview, open and save the drawing in AutoCAD.

If a file is open or being used by another program, the Batch Drawing Converter displays the version of the file as "Unknown."

Menu and Toolbar Porter

The MNU file you create with the Menu and Toolbar Porter is not automatically loaded by AutoCAD. Use the MENU command in AutoCAD to compile and load your new MNU file.

If there is a blank line between pop menu items and the subitems below them in the file, the Menu and Toolbar Porter fails to add all subitems. Remove the blank line to correct the error.

Adding a menu item to a partial menu causes a parsing error. To resolve the error, remove the line ***MENUGROUP=ACAD from the bottom of the menu file.

A child menu added to a partial menu appears to be incorrect because it is placed on the same level as the parent menu in the Menu and Toolbar Porter. The child menu is added correctly to the MNU file, however.

Adding a toolbar to a MNU file that does not already contain a toolbar may result in parsing errors.

Before you open a file in the Menu and Toolbar Porter, check whether it is read-only. If you do some work in a read-only file that you want to save, use the SAVEAS command to save the file with a new name and then rename it after you exit the Menu and Toolbar Porter. If you use the SAVE command, no message is displayed to warn you that your changes are not being saved.

Note: The Menu and Toolbar Porter writes only MNU files.

AutoLISP Compatibility Analyzer

The AutoLISP Compatibility Analyzer examines complete lines of text; therefore, it may not recognize function calls that are spread over multiple lines, as in the following example:
